Turn Based Games are Fun
I am not much of a gamer. Mostly, I play chess and sim type games that do not have much online interaction with other people. I am a loner for the most part and don’t want to get involved in long chats with people I don’t know. I rather sit with friends face to face, but that is me. However, I can easily get sucked into these games where you try to build up your castle and resources and attack other players online. I find Turn Based games are fun and too addicting, but I just need to keep playing more and more!
The latest games I have been playing are from InnoGames. So far, I have only tried Forge of Empires and Tribal Wars 2. Both of which are very addicting, but it seems I can put down the laptop after about 30 minutes of play for Forge of Empires. On the other hand, Tribal Wars is complex enough that there is almost constantly something you can do. But I wonder if it is far too complex a game.
Tribal Wars 2 walks you from the start through the various options of game play by creating small easy quests. Linking between the screens is awesome and there seems to be multiple ways to find the screens you need to complete your tasks. So far I am in protection mode for about a week, but I am curious to see how game play excitement changes once other players can attack me. I think I am doing ok at the moment by upgrading all my resources and armies, but I am sure others are doing just the same. There is an illusion of doing well when you start this game, because there does not seem to be any consequences. This is great for learning mode, just not sure what to expect in a week or so.
Forge of Empires is more my speed of game. I have tried it on my phone as a separate account from my desktop browser version. The phone seems a bit harder to move along as quickly and getting new friends or people to attack. From the desktop version, it seems i can either make friends or attack 20 or more people, where there is only about 5 or so on the phone. I don’t know if this is because not as many people play on the phone versus desktop, or merely a limitation of mobile. I do enjoy attacking other players in the game, as I have more control of where I place my characters on the attack board and where and how I move them. What I have found is that many players in the early stages of playing must not be setting their defending army and when I attack there is the complimentary 2 defenders. This makes the attack far too easy and has increased my ranking very quickly. I do see where some have set their defending army and the attack is a bit more exciting and I don’t always win, which is a good thing otherwise the game would be boring like it is when no defending army set. So, if you play do everyone a favor and have your max 8 defending army.
Overall, I do like them both and find that I will be playing Forge of Empires the most. While Tribal Wars is great fun, it is far too complex of play for me to keep up with and still pay attention to life around me. I did like the feature of Tribal Wars that seems to suggest often to take a break from game play, but I wonder how many listen or just forge on in the game which you can still do. Let me know other games similar to Forge of Empires I should try.
